Yusra Khan: 2003 Scholarship winner

The PCSS Alumni Committee is pleased to announce the recipient of our $500 five-year alumni scholarship is Yusra Khan.

Yusra is the last of the five-year (OAC) graduates to receive the $500 alumni scholarship award. During her five years at Port Credit, Yusra participated in an incredible number of activities. She was active in tutoring, cross country running, tennis, track, badminton, and the Student Council executive. As well, she has held the following positions during her time at PCSS: yearbook photographer, yearbook editor, school newspaper reporter, school newspaper president, editor of Youth Media magazine, organizer of the Terry Fox run, president of the chemistry club, and an actress in the Sears Drama Festival.

In addition to her school activities, Yusra has also been busy volunteering in the community. Her volunteer work includes: Trillium Hospital, Canadian Institute for the Blind, Living Arts Centre, YMCA, Canadian Cancer Society, Alzheimer's Society, Arthritis Society, and the Square One Youth Centre. Yusra has also held a part-time job at Vector Marketing.

Despite the many demands on her time, Yusra found the time for her academic pursuits, achieving a high honour average every year. Being an outstanding student, Yusra has also received the following awards: OAC Chemistry Award, Sociology Award, Grade 10 History Award, Canadian Millenium Scholarship, and the University of Toronto's Desmond Morton Award for community involvement and leadership skills.

Starting in September 2003, Yusra plans to take sciences at university with the goal of becoming a doctor. With her strong work habits and concern for others, we are confident that Yusra will succeed in her goals. Congratulations on an outstanding high school experience!
